M-Learning Landscapes aims to create e-learning opportunities using digital mobile technologies. The project will assist teachers in four high school science classes in northern Tasmania to transform the educational environment.
They will adapt learning materials for download into student handheld computers and will develop a teaching template for using digital mobile technologies with students. SiMERR will be providing essential office suite software for the handhelds in this project.
In addition, the same learning materials will be placed into an web-based content management system. Every student in each of the four classes will have a handheld computer for up to a year. The students will use the handheld in conjunction with the web-based learning activities to supplement classroom study.
The project will evaluate student learning in this ‘alwayson’ situation, where recreation and education intermix and school’s never out.
Research Questions
Does student use of personal handheld computers improve school learning?
What new pedagogical practices do teachers adopt when students are equipped with personal handheld computers linked to online learning materials?
